Sablet is a charming village with a very good boulangerie, lovely restaurants and bars, a grocery story, an excellent hairdresser, and a small market on Friday mornings. This unspoiled corner of Provence is culturally fascinating from the Roman ruins in Vaison-la-Romaine and Orange, to the area's Medieval villages (Seguret, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Beaumes-de-Venise) and the annual Avignon festival. There are also several markets throughout the week in Vaison, Ste-Cecile-les-Vignes, and Carpentras, wine tasting at the many superb domains, antiquing at local brocantes, and, of course, excellent local restaurants to choose from. There is plenty to occupy fitness enthusiasts: walking routes; mountain biking trails; road biking (have a go at Mont Ventoux); and canoeing/kayaking on nearby rivers.
From the house, there is a lovely walk down through the woods to Sablet - a great morning walk to pick up breakfast from the boulangerie. A longer walk is to Seguret, one of the "most beautiful villages in France", recommend stopping here for either lunch or dinner before the return walk.
The area has many, many excellent wine domains to visit and do tastings. There are wines for all pockets. Happy to make some recommendations but we find that discovering them for yourself is half the fun!
Marseille Airport is 1 hour and 15 minutes drive. Nimes Airport is a one-hour drive. Avignon TGV station is a 45-minute drive. Vaison-la-Romaine is 15 minutes away. Orange is 20 minutes away.
