Use the home as a launching pad to everything you want to see in Western Colorado--Black Canyon of the Gunnison, downtown Montrose, Ouray, Telluride, and world class hiking and skiing are all accessible from the property. And at the end of the day, relax with amazing views of the mountains and stars from the patio or the fire pit!
The space
The Mountain View Escape has a unique layout filled with light from the numerous southern-facing windows. It was originally a berm (earth/underground home) and a second story was added many years later. Accordingly, the main living area--living room, dining room & kitchen--along with a bedroom (King) with en suite bathroom and a second full bath--are on the lower, walk out basement level. This level walks out to the patio and the driveway/parking area, and so this bedroom is perfect for any guests who want to avoid stairs. The main area is heated with a gas fireplace and adjacent rooms each have an in-wall electric heaters. There is no central AC on this level, but it stays fairly cool in the summer because of the cement walls, and there is a portable AC unit for the bedroom if needed.
The upstairs level features a second primary bedroom (King) with a gas fireplace and large, luxurious en suite featuring a shower with double shower heads and body jets, and a freestanding jetted tub. The upstairs also has a cozy den/game room and three additional bedrooms (Queen, Queen, and two Twins), plus another bathroom.
The lower level features a large patio with a dining set, propane grill, and outstanding views of the San Juan mountain range. In addition to the patio and yard areas, there is a firepit area at the back of the property which guests are welcome to use so long as a fire ban is not in place (note, this space is shared with the guest in the guest house on the property). The house is located on over 8 acres, so it feels very private, but it's situated right over the city limits, so is just minutes to downtown Montrose.
Up to 2 well behaved dogs are welcome, but please note that the property is not fenced, and the guest in the guest house on the property may also have a dog, so pets must be voice trained and friendly.
As alluded to above, there is another residence on the property--a small guest house attached to the garage. The guest house has its own entrance and patio, although those guests share the driveway, parking area (in front of the garage) and are also allowed to use the fire pit area at the back of the property. Although there are two residences on this property, we find that each house feels very private.
A note about safety for children: There are cable-style railings, both inside and on the upstairs balcony, which could be a safety issue for a young child. We ask that children be supervised to prevent any accidents. Additionally, although there is a railing, an adventurous child could probably access the roof around the railing; again, we just ask that you use caution.
