The space
MAIN UPPER LEVEL
The main floor is located on the upper level of the house, where you will cook, relax, watch nature from all angles, and enjoy the patio or TV in the evenings. We have large open windows showcasing an ocean view and allowing you to get that open air feel along with 5 ceilings fans to keep you extra cool. From the windows, you can watch a wide array of birds, iguanas, monkeys, and sometimes even dolphins in the bay.
The main floor also features the master bedroom, which has a comfortable king size memory foam mattress, a ceiling fan to keep you cool at night with 3 speed settings. and a large ensuite bathroom with an open-air covered shower. Watch nature go by as you rinse off!
Our kitchen is fully stocked with everything needed to cook a great meal. We have a Ninja blender, air-fryer, large fridge, and full stove/oven (no electric coffee maker, toaster or microwave oven due to solar power).
LOWER LEVEL APARTMENT
The 1st floor is a studio-style apartment with an open concept. It has 2 queen beds, a small home gym, full bathroom and a half outdoor shower. This layout provides great privacy for families with older kids or for 2 couples wanting their own space. The 1st floor has a separate locked entrance and contains a home gym with a full set of weights and bars, bench press, cables, and a pull-up machine. The gym is small but has everything you need to get a great workout in!
PRIVATE BEACH / SURF SHACK
Our private beach is our favorite area of the property. Enjoy the large sandy area, lined with palm trees, beautiful flora and fauna, and views of the bay. Relax in the hammocks or enjoy a game of ping pong while watching the sunset over the Costa Rican mountains in the distance. Snorkel, swim, or paddle to the nearby reef where you will find a colorful array of coral teeming with all kinds of sea life. Afterwards, rinse off in our outdoor shower before settling in for the evening.
The Surf Shack is at your disposal and equipped with:
- 2 stand-up paddle boards
- Various sizes of surf boards
- 1 double person kayak
- Snorkel gear + fins for women & kids
- Various balls and beach games
- Bug spray
- Fishing gear
Our house is totally off-grid, self-sustaining and eco-friendly, run 100% by solar energy. Fresh, clean rainwater goes through a multi-filtration system to ensure you get the purest drinking water. Despite being off grid, you can still enjoy the comforts of home, including wifi throughout the house (15mb/s), an 80” TV with streaming apps preloaded, and comfortable couches.
Guest access
Our guests will have full private access to our 2-story home and all its amenities, along with a dedicated parking spot if needed. For your safety, security, and assistance, we have an on-site property manager that lives in the casita near the beach in front of the main house. Therefore, some space will be shared including the driveway and access to the stairway down to the beach. The beach area will be dedicated for your use only, but the property manager will have access for maintenance as needed.
Other things to note
PLEASE READ: Casa Drago is a beautiful home where the jungle meets the sea. While we try to make our home as comfortable as we can, it is more rustic than an Airbnb you would find in the city. We are amongst nature and you will come across insects/bugs and see geckos cruising in and out of the house, yet they are completely harmless. We are in the jungle with natural beauty and wildlife!
Although all guests are welcome it may be worth noting it is not ideal for very young children. A few areas of concern are the stairs and the balcony on upper floor.
There is a staircase (15 steps) to the upper floor of the main house, as well as long stairway down to the beach (70 steps).
We are 100% sustainable which means water and power can run out if not used sparingly, PLEASE be considerate and conscious of what you use & when. If you leave a room or area, please make sure everything is turned off. Anything with an electric heating element (hair dryer, hair straightener, electric coffee machine or electric kettle) uses a very large amount of energy and should not be used.
Please keep in mind that tropical oceanfront properties endure much wear and tear. It is a constant job to maintain, clean and repair things around the house. We try our best, but there is always work needed on our house. Please don’t expect a high-end luxury hotel-type experience here, you can think of this more like a beautiful eco-experience.
Lastly, we are located a 35-40 minute drive from Bocas Town. The road is not well-maintained and it is a very bumpy ride. Groceries, restaurants, and bars all take a little while to get to as a result. It’s the small price we pay for being in a tropical paradise!
TRANSPORTATION:
Guests will be picked up from the airport or a pre-determined location in Bocas Town by our property manager Dave. He will also take you to the grocery stores and shops to complete your shopping. All other transportation including your return to the airport can be organized with our property manager as needed, the island has taxis that cost around $25 one way or $40 round-trip.
CONSTRUCTION: There is a new house that has started construction beside us and unfortunately there may be ongoing noise throughout the coming months. The construction schedule is somewhat unpredictable as there have been days without construction and some with more.
