Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time before, during (or after!) your stay - I will keep a respectful distance during your visit allowing you to enjoy all the comforts that Bruton and Mint Leaf Cottage has to offer! BRUTON is a chocolate-box medieval town and friendly village (circa 3000 residents) which has been sprinkled with stardust and seen a meteoric rise in celebrity residents in recent times (Nicholas Cage / Johnny Depp / Stella McCartney / Andrea Corr / Pearl Lowe / Mariella Frostrup / Kevin McCloud – to name a few!). There are a few traditional pubs to while away the hours plus a smattering of great restaurants which include Truffles (across the road), At The Chapel (2 mins walk up the High Street), Roth Bar & Restaurant (linked with Hauser & Wirth – 15 mins walk though country fields, worth it for the sheer novelty factor!) and Matt’s Kitchen (in his house – his actual home!!). There is also a decent Chinese Takeaway across the road, if you can’t tear yourself away from the sofa! Recently, the main draw to the village has been Hauser & Wirth Gallery (where Princess Eugenie works!!) showcasing world class contemporary art in a quirky setting. Entry is FREE and exhibitions change all the time – for example, Germaine Greer is speaking there this week! You can take in further shows at the Bruton Art Factory. The countryside is breathtakingly beautiful – you simply can’t leave town without a hike to the Dovecote for magnificent views across Bruton! Further afield, other decent walks include Creech Hill (the highest pint in South-East Somerset notable for a univallate Iron Age hill fort, situated 1.2 miles from Bruton), Dunkery Hill (the highest point in Somerset), King Alfred's Tower, Stourhead Ornamental Gardens, Cadbury Castle and Glastonbury Tor. Suggested day-trips include Shepton Mallet (simply to bag some bargains at Mulberry’s factory outlet shop ladies!!!), the market town of Frome (10 miles – be sure to sneak a peek at Babington House –the country outpost of trendy Soho House which offers half-price spa treatments at the Cowshed on every Monday!), Bath (20 miles), Glastonbury (17 miles), Sherborne and Wells (10 miles – don’t miss fabulous Wookey Hole if you’re travelling with little ones!). You will probably have passed Stonehenge on your way to come visit but if not be sure to check it out – it’s only 30 miles away for a major slice of Pagan history! Glastonbury Festival takes place every June only 8 miles down the road - Bruton makes an excellent oasis for commuting to the event. The town hosts 2 smaller music festivals every year - Farm Fest and Shindig – also worth checking out! TRAVEL is mostly by foot and car - plus there is a direct train line from London connecting Bruton to Paddington, Frome, Bristol and Bath via Castle Cary and Westbury. Coaches to London take 2 hours from nearby Wincanton to Hammersmith (Berry's Superfast Coach Service). AND FINALLY…. We hope you enjoy your stay and return home feeling refreshed and revitalised - we look forward to welcoming you to Mint Leaf Cottage soon! Trina & Phil xxx
